Course Summary

This webinar will showcase the role of various evidence types in supporting animal, wildlife and rural crime investigations and prosecutions, illustrated through case examples. The session will also provide an update on emerging developments in animal DNA analysis and demonstrate how these innovative techniques can enhance investigative and evidential outcomes. Our scientists will include information about more traditional forensic techniques and how they can be used in conjunction with more specialist techniques to investigate animal, rural and wildlife crimes.

In addition to our fully accredited human DNA profiling services, we offer an ISO17025 accredited species identification test, a type of DNA analysis that allows us to identify most vertebrate species from biological samples recovered at a crime scene, as well as DNA tests that allow us to identify individual dogs and cattle.

The session will also consider the wider investigative value of animal, wildlife and rural crime evidence, including its potential relevance where individuals involved in offences such as hare coursing are linked to wider criminal activity.

Please note this course is only open to Police and professionals working within the Criminal Justice System.
