Crime Scene Attendance

Cellmark's trained scientists can attend the scene of an incident to consult and advise on the recovery of evidence and to provide information which might assist in the investigation of a crime or other event. They will consider and identify the need for other specialists if relevant. They also provide advice to police about recovery of marks and can also attend crime scene to chemically enhance and recover footwear marks.

At the crime scene the scientist records relevant details of the appearance and condition of the scene. For example, at the scene of an unexplained death, it might be relevant to record whether or not there is general disturbance, as if a fight took place, and whether or not there are signs of a forced entry. The scientist will ensure that appropriate records are made showing the significance, location and condition of items prior to and during any subsequent examination.

We have specialist expertise in the recovery of samples for DNA analysis in crime scene and mass disaster situations. We advised on the collection of samples from the Asian tsunami disaster and have staff trained and ready to respond to similar events when requested.
