Specialist Fibres Examination

The past few years have seen significant improvements in the methodology of fibre analysis. The variety of methods that can be successfully applied is growing and data continues to be generated that assists in the examination and interpretation of fibres found in criminal cases.

Cellmark has partnered with Contact Traces, formed by Tiernan Coyle in November 2006, to provide a comprehensive fibre examination service.

Fibre Mapping

Fibre mapping at a crime scene involves taping surfaces in a serial one-to-one fashion. This allows the precise location of recovered fibres to be identified and provides a detailed map of their distribution. Interpretation of the fibre map can give a powerful insight into the nature and extent of the physical interaction between a victim and offender.
