As the sophistication and ingenuity of the clandestine chemists increases the forensic chemist is employed to identify the "recipe" used to create a batch of recreational drugs and therefore to assist in locating the source, and potentially those employed in its creation. The impurities which chemists find may point to the source as a sophisticated offshore operation or a back street garage.
