- Forensic Analyst (L1) - Abingdon
- Summary of Job:
- To undertake DNA analysis of submitted biological materials.
- Reporting Relationship:
- Reports to Forensic Team Leader/no direct reports
- Principal Accountabilities:

- PCR/STR analysis on Forensic EZ1 samples following Standard Operating Procedures under close supervision of the Team Leader, ensuring that quality, accuracy and safety standards are maintained.
- Examination of forensic exhibits for the presence of DNA bearing material, make notes and record continuity details prior to DNA profiling.
- Receipt and logging on of incoming samples.
- Basic knowledge of expert witness training, preparation of statements and giving evidence in court regarding samples that have been analysed.
- Responding to routine enquiries to a high standard.

- Education:

- Minimum ‘A’ level, preferably BSc or HND in a Molecular Biology or Applied Biology subject
- Experience:

- Some laboratory experience an advantage.
- Some laboratory experience an advantage.
- Technical Skills:
-
- Ability to work to GLP
- Familiarity with EZ1 DNA Extraction Method
- Familiarity with electrophoresis equipment (e.g. 3100)
- Good knowledge of Molecular Biology Methods DNA/PCR essential.
- Understanding of Quality systems e.g. Iso.
- Understanding of and ability to use computerised sample tracking system
- Experience with Microsoft Excel / Word to carry out data input/manipulation.

- Occasional requirement to be on call for emergencies
