Focussing on providing "best value", we combine speed, analytical sensitivity, and quality at the right price.

Case conferences

Large major crime cases will often require the reporting scientist to attend case conferences where they will meet the police investigation team to either outline an approach to case at the start of the inquiry or at any later date to give an update on how the case is progressing. Case conferences are especially useful if a reporting scientist is undertaking a cold case review since they need to familiarise themselves with the history of the case and any developments that may have surfaced since the offence which may have occurred years earlier.

Reporting Scientists

The presence of multiple evidence types and interpretation requirements means that each major crime case submitted to the laboratory is allocated a Reporting Scientist. The Reporting Scientist will assess each case upon receipt, devise an examination strategy, manage the scientific aspects of the case and ultimately compile a statement detailing their findings and interpretations. Regular communication is maintained with the police investigating team ensuring that any new developments and/or additional information is kept in context to any findings in the case.

A number of other scientists and technicians - examining scientists - may work a case, but the ultimate responsibility for the scientific interpretations and conclusions for the final report remains with the reporting scientist.
